Welcome to your class webpage for
8th Grade American History
Welcome to 8th Grade Social Studies!
In the links above, you will find a general outline of each unit studied during our time together, with the Michigan Grade Level Expectations for 8th Grade Social Studies listed.
At the bottom of this home page, and in the links above (under "more"), I have links to lesson plans, documents, and external sites we will use throughout the year. If you find any of the links to be "dead" or any other website error, please be sure to let me know!
My goal is to provide a learning experience that blends as seamlessly as possible between my physical classroom and wherever you may be when not in my classroom. You should be able to find all materials used in class (except our textbook, but I have digital copies available and am working on getting that uploaded as well!), as well as specific lesson details (by date) in case of an absence. My "contact me" page goes directly to my school email, so feel free to use that form if you need help or have questions (emails guaranteed to be answered during school hours only...after-hours answers are a bonus).

My name is Sally Morgan (Ms. Morgan) and I have taught in the Yale Public School District since the spring of 2006.
My Michigan teaching certifications are K-8 all subjects self contained, with endorsements to teach 6-8 grades Social Studies, Science, and English Language Arts. I have taught all of the classes listed at various grades at various times in the Junior High, but my primary subject area has consistently been 8th Grade Social Studies at the Junior High.
I have also taught multiple elective classes, from Yearbook for several years (we tok it from a photos printed and glued to paper yearbook to the online program used currently!) to a short-lived media production class. Our goal with that was to have a daily program that would be broadcast in the mornings...but sometimes goals are just dreams that don't really happen. And that's OK.
Most recently, I have been incredibly honored/excited to teach the elective of Computer Science Discoveries for several years (using code.org curriculum), and am excited for the addition of an AI (Artificial Intelligence) unit added for the 2021.2022 school year! Computer Science is a "passion project" of mine - I host several websites, have created some apps, and participate in hackathons just because I can.
I've lived in the area for the majority of my life, my parents graduated from Yale, I graduated from Yale, I had a child graduate from Yale. My dreams after retirement are to live in a van down by the river, and am currently in the process of retrofitting a van for just that purpose.
I enjoy watercolor and urban painting, sewing, yarn arts, and making baskets using Native American traditions. I have recently taken on the hobby of hula hoop dancing, and am currently taking classes online to become a hoop coach...I'm not sure what I'll do with that knowledge, but I enjoy learning.
I have three cats. If you ask me...that's one too many...but I don't know which one of mine is the "too many," so here I am with three cats. You'll probably hear quite a bit about them, so may as well share their names: Mozilla (my favorite), Chrome (he's a jerk, but incredibly cuddly!), and Frankie (same age as Mrs. Traub's daughter named Frankie!) - she's the newest to the household, but she's already had a rough life...I don't want to make it worse for her.
I believe in humanity, I believe in inclusion, and I appreciate the differences we all bring to the classroom. Our class will be a safe learning location where all students know they are valued and deserve to be heard.
Thanks for reading this far, and let's make this a great school year!
